Lucas Smiles. At you. At me. At everyone.
His heart is filled with happiness and he has blessed us since the moment we laid eyes on him.
On January 25, 2009, my nephew Lucas Victor was born prematurely after just 29 weeks of pregnancy. He suffered severe brain damage at birth which resulted in a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy (CP) at six months of age. From his first days in the NICU at Abington Hospital, to the physical therapy Lucas now endures several times a week, he is in a constant struggle.
But through it all, Lucas smiles.
The cerebral palsy has affected Lucas’ ability to crawl, sit up, walk and talk. This is especially difficult because Lucas is a twin and his brother Logan is developing normally. While Lucas is making progress, his parents (my brother Tony and sister in law Heather) want to do more for him.
As parents they have been going to ends of the earth looking for ways to help him. In doing so, they’ve found an innovative, ground-breaking stem cell treatment to help Lucas with his Cerebral Palsy (CP) in Germany. So in two shorts weeks, they are bound for Dusseldorf.
To help them on this journey, our friends and family have organized the Lucas Smiles Benefit to raise the funds needed for the treatment and trip. The benefit is Saturday night (9/25/2010) in Hatboro, PA. If you are local, we would love to see you there. We have received tremendous support from the community and have a wonderful night of music, food, raffles, and auctions planned. If you can’t make, donations are being graciously accepted via the website to support Lucas as Tony and Heather strive to provide him with the best care possible.
You can learn more about Lucas at his blog. I sincerely thank you in advance for your thoughts, prayers, and generosity. It means the world to us.
