Content Marketing & Inbound marketing intersect each other at some point, but both can exist exclusively as well. I don't think they are same, nor one superimposes the other. They both have the right to exist on their own, and yet share some common metrics, strategies, goals and operations.

Carmen,

You are so right though that this conversation remains timely and relevant.
My experience has been that B2B marketers are only now beginning to fully
embrace the need for a change in approach and investing in learning how.

You make a very valuable contribution to the conversation and am grateful
for your comment and tweet. It is much appreciated.

Keep coming back (on new and old posts) : )

Oh, Jeremy. You faked me out by tweeting this today. Just saw that this post was from a year ago. Still timely, even if I'm late to the party.

Great post, Jeremy. This topic is definitely top of mind for me this week! You've already got input from some of the best minds out there (or in there), but I'd like to share another tidbit of insight from Ardath Albee (@Ardath421:disqus ) that really resonates with me--and dovetails nicely with your graphic:

"Inbound marketing is the concept of integrating content, search and social media to help prospects find your company through the sharing of information they consider valuable and choose to engage with.
If we consider the challenge of being found by prospects, what's really changing is the approach. With inbound marketing, we're working to attract prospects to our content through the optimization of search and the use of social media. Without the content, there would be no inbound marketing.Outbound marketing—done well—is an extension of that concept. In fact, I'd argue that the defining difference is pull vs. push, which can also be stated as choice vs. interruption."[From Ardath's Marketing Interactions post earlier this week: http://marketinginteractions.typepad.com/marketing_interactions/2011/06/inbound-needs-outbound.html]Loving this dialog...
